Almost always GPS. A wrist underwater is a hard place to hold a fix, and a ride with no position data behind it cannot be found. Open the session: if it shows the orange “GPS was silent for ~N min” line, that is what happened, and the missing waves are in that stretch. It helps to start the session before you paddle out, above water, so the watch has a fix by the time you're in the line-up.

Yes. Open the session and choose Recalculate Waves — the current detector re-runs over the raw track that was stored with it. Wave detection improves between releases, so an old session can come back with a better count than it had on the day.

Distance is the integral of the Doppler speed your watch reports, not the sum of GPS dots — that is deliberate, because at the accuracy a wrist in the water gets, joining up dots inflates some rides and deletes others. A ride will still read short if the fixes were sparse through it. If a number looks wrong to you, export the session and send it over: real tracks are what the detector gets tuned against.

The watch keeps the session and retries by itself, so nothing is lost while the phone is out of range. Bring the two devices together, unlock the iPhone and open Surfbreak — the transfer completes in the background within a minute. If it still hasn't arrived, make sure both apps are up to date and the watch has Surfbreak installed from the same phone.

The forecast half, yes, in full — spots, map, tides, wind, everything. Wave counting needs the watch: the tracking runs on its GPS and motion sensors, because that is the device that goes in the water.

Sessions do, entirely: recording, wave detection and your whole history live on the device, and guest mode is checked before the network. The forecast needs a connection to refresh, but the last figures you loaded for a spot stay cached and readable.

The catalogue covers 183 breaks across Indonesia. If one you surf is missing, or a name, location or the way a break faces is off, email the spot name and roughly where it is — corrections reach the app without an update.

In the app: Profile → Delete account. It takes effect immediately and removes your synced sessions, their tracks, your avatar and your profile. Data kept only on your device is removed by deleting the app. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
